I finally made it to the Newburyport Literary Festival last month. I couldn't make it last year because the flu and pneumonia kept me in the hospital for three days. This was the second year of the festival and it featured many well known poets and writers as well as local scribblers.
In the morning I attended a poetry reading at the library and listened to some poets who had just published their first books as well as poets with more widely recognized names such as Rhina Espailliat and Len Krisak.
At noon I went to the Firehouse where I joined a full house to hear novelist Andre Dubus III read from his yet to be published novel Garden Of Last Days. It was the first time I've had the opportunity to hear Andre in public and I found him to be very entertaining and down to earth . Nice to see that his success with House Of Sand and Fog hasn't gone to his head. Later I bought one of his books and stood in line to get his autograph. Great guy. Good luck Andre with your new book.

Why did I decide to start a blog? Well, why not? Everyone who's online seems to have one so why shouldn't I have my own?(I know that's three whys in a row. I'm not exactly making a good first impression for a writer. Yes, that's what I call myself.) So this blog will be about my literary travails and other random musings. It will be about whatever I'm working on and what I'm not. It will be about writers and poets and books and magazines and everything else connected to the written word online and off. (Yeah, I know, too many ands. Such a lazy writer!)
